This book is Seerat-un-Nabi written in Urdu by late ‘Allamah Shibli Nu’mani & ‘Allamah Sulaiman Nadwi.
None can deny that the life-history of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is an imperative need not only for Muslims but for humanity at large. It is a necessity, not only religious or Islamic, but also literary, Moral and cultural. In short, it is a necessity that meets our interest both in this world and the Hereafter.
This valuable work on the life of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) hardly stands in need of any introduction. Allama Shibli and Sulaiman Nadwi have indeed earned great fame for this work.
About Allamah Shibli Nu’mani
Allamah Shibli Nu’mani (1857 – 1914) was a respected scholar of Islam and Historian from Indian subcontinent during British Raj. He was born in Bindwal, Azamgarh district of present-day Uttar Pradesh. He founded the Shibli National College in 1883 and the Darul Mussanifin in Azamgarh.
He was also a poet and was fluent in Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Turkish and Urdu.
He went to Makkah for Hajj and there he devoted his time to furthering his studies in Islamic theology, history, philosophy and Sufism from different scholars in Arabia.
On his return from Makkah he met Sir Syed Ahmed Khan who had just established Aligarh Muslim University. Allamah Nu’mani was offered and joined a teaching position at the university in 1882.
He left Aligarh after the death of Sir Syed Ahmed in 1898.
He was Greatly inspired by the progress of science and education in the West. He wanted to inspire the Muslims to make similar progress by having recourse to their lost heritage and culture, and warned them against getting lost in Western culture.
About Allamah Sulaiman Nadwi
Allamah Syed Sulaiman Nadwi, was born on November 22, 1884 in the Desna, Bihar a village of Patna (then in British India). His father, Hakeem Syed Abul Hasan was a Sufi. In 1901, he was admitted into Darul-uloom Nadwatul Ulama at Lucknow . He studied for seven years at Nadwa. He was also appointed sub-editor of the journal, An-Nadwa. His first article, Waqt (Time) was published in the monthly Urdu Journal Makhzan edited by Abdul Qadir. In 1906, he graduated from the Nadwa. In 1908, he was appointed an instructor of Modern Arabic and Theology at Dar-ul-Uloom Nadwa. June 1950 (after the partition of India), he moved to Pakistan and settled in Karachi. He was appointed as Chairman of Taleemat-e-Islami Board to advise on the Islamic aspects of Pakistan’s constitution. He died on November 22, 1953 in Karachi at the age of 69.
