Fatawa-e-Rashidia – Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi

The Indian scholar Hadhrat Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (R.A.) compiled a compilation of Islamic legal rulings, or fatwas, in the late 1800s and published it as Fatawa-e-Rashidiya. It was crucial in driving out false innovations and un-Islamic behaviors from Muslim society and includes more than 2000 fatwas on a wide range of subjects pertaining to Islamic beliefs, practices, and customs. The collection is regarded as a key piece in the history of Islamic study in the Indian subcontinent and was the first of its sort from any scholar of the Deobandi school of thought.

Originally released in three parts, it has later been combined into a single volume. The fatwas, which address a wide range of subjects such as religious beliefs, ceremonies, customs, and social issues, were written whilst Hadhrat Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (R.A.) was serving as the mufti (Islamic jurist) of the Darul Uloom Deoband, a renowned Islamic seminary in northern India.

The fatwas are written in a simple and straightforward style, avoiding in-depth debates or mentioning the opinions of other Islamic professionals. Scholars and students of Islamic law continue studying and use it as a valuable source of Islamic legal education for Muslims in the Indian subcontinent as well as worldwide.
